  • Financial Incentives: Under the Inter-Caste Marriage Scheme, eligible couples who undergo a legal inter-caste marriage are provided with a financial incentive. The amount of financial assistance provided is Rs. 2.5 lakhs.
  • Strengthening Ties Between Communities: Inter-caste marriages can help strengthen ties between communities. They can lead to the formation of new, more inclusive identities that go beyond caste and community boundaries.

What is Inter-Caste Marriage Scheme?

The Central Government introduced the scheme called Dr Ambedkar Scheme For Social Integration Through Inter-Caste Marriages to appreciate Inter-caste Marriages. Under this scheme, 2.5 lakhs of incentives are given to such couples (one of them belongs to a Scheduled caste).

The Inter-Caste Marriage Scheme provides financial incentives to couples who marry outside their own caste or community. The scheme aims to promote social harmony and reduce caste discrimination in society.

Under the scheme, financial assistance is provided to couples where one spouse belongs to a Scheduled Caste (SC) and the other spouse belongs to a non-SC community. The amount of financial assistance provided to the couple is Rs. 2.5 lakhs.

The scheme is designed to encourage inter-caste marriages by providing financial assistance to the newly married couple to help them settle down in the initial phase of their married life. The scheme is also intended to help change social attitudes towards inter-caste marriages and promote a more inclusive and tolerant society.

The Inter-Caste Marriage Scheme is not a poverty alleviation or employment generation scheme, but rather a recognition of the courage and commitment shown by the couple in taking the step towards inter-caste marriage.

The extent of Incentives under the Scheme

The Inter-Caste Marriage Scheme introduced by the government offers a financial incentive of Rs. 2.50 lakh to eligible couples who undergo a legal inter-caste marriage. In order to receive the incentive, the couple must submit a Pre-Stamped Receipt on a Ten Rupee Non-Judicial Stamp Paper.

Once the receipt is received, an amount of Rs. 1.50 lakh will be released to the joint account of the couple through RTGS/NEFT. The remaining amount will be kept in a Fixed Deposit with the Foundation for a period of three years. The interest accrued on the deposit will also be added to the amount.

After three years from the date of sanction of the incentive by the Foundation, the remaining amount along with the interest accrued will be released to the couple. This amount will help the couple settle down in the initial phase of their married life and promote their social integration.

It is important to note that the incentive is only applicable to couples who have undergone a legal inter-caste marriage and have submitted the necessary documents to the competent authority. The scheme aims to encourage inter-caste marriages and promote social harmony in the country.

Eligibility of Inter-Caste Marriages for availing benefit under the Scheme

To avail the benefits of Inter-caste marriage under the Dr Ambedkar scheme, there are certain eligibility conditions that must be fulfilled. The eligibility criteria for availing benefits under the Inter-caste Marriage Program 2018 are as follows:

Conclusion
